    Topic Description: 

    What drives a market? People. They move and influence things in profound ways. Regardless of the technology behind them, markets are the financial reflection of emotions - - fear, greed and uncertainty chief among them. In this session, you will learn how to navigate the financial markets by recognizing, quantifying and mitigating the financial risks facing both buy- and sell-side market practitioners with an emphasis on Foreign Exchange. In addition to reviewing the basics of hedging, we will discuss how to make sound decisions regarding the financial risks faced by corporate practitioners given the new challenges engendered by the pandemic.

    Approved CreditsThis session will award 1.7 CTP credits, 1.7 FP&A credits, 1.8 CPE credits and 1 Samford PD credit. 

    Speaker Bio:

    Ken Hogan started his career at an independent investment firm, Americo Retirement Services. In 2000, he joined Amegy Bank, where he became an expert in foreign exchange banking and co-developed an online trading platform that allowed Amegy to compete with larger banks. Before joining Cadence Bank, Mr. Hogan was Director of Foreign Exchange Sales at BOKF N.A., where he oversaw trading and sales for seven regional banks and established one of the first deliverable Chinese yuan trading programs in North America.

    In 2012, Ken established the Foreign Exchange Division, which covers all major products for developed and emerging market currencies around the globe. He created all international governance standards, policies, and procedures for the Bancorp from scratch and implemented a suite of investment products comparable to those offered by global banks.

    He is a frequent guest lecturer at universities and trade associations on the topics of macroeconomics, finance, and global risk management and is a past president of the MBA Council of Houston.

    John Norris will present his objective, data-based forward-looking analysis on economic projections and financial trends in the USA and the State of Alabama. He will explore trends unfolding across Alabama that are poised to accelerate growth in key strategic industries.

    Speaker Biography:

    Mr. Norris oversees the wealth management department for Oakworth Capital Bank. He has over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining Oakworth Capital, Mr. Norris was chief economist, chairman of the investment strategy commit-tee, and a senior fund manager for Regions Financial Corporation's Morgan Asset Management (MAM) subsidiary. Prior to joining MAM, Mr. Norris served as chief investment officer for The Trust Company of Sterne, Agee & Leach, Inc. He started his professional career in 1991 with Mercantile-Safe Deposit & Trust Company in Baltimore, Maryland, as an institutional fixed income portfolio manager. Mr. Norris frequently appears in various national and local media as an expert on the economy and the markets, and is currently a guest columnist to the Montgomery Advertiser's Sunday business section. He was named to the Birmingham Business Journal's (BBJ) "Who's Who in Banking & Finance" for 2004, the BBJ's "Top 40 Under 40" for 2007. He has served on the Birmingham Chamber of Commerce's Council of Economic Advisors, the IPC Foundation's Board of Directors, and on the advisory board for Samford University's Economics and Finance Department. Currently, he is an Elder at Independent Presbyterian Church, and serves on its Finance and Personnel Committees, as well as being on the Board of Directors for The Literacy Council of Central Alabama.

    Topic Description:  Danny Capitel will discuss the exponential growth of reciprocal deposits in recent months and why many companies view ICS (Insured Cash Sweep) and CDARS (Certificate of Deposit Account Registry Service) as a source of cost-effective funding and preferable over other funding choices, such as listing service deposits, collateralized deposits, and wholesale funding purchases.

    Speaker Bio: 

    Danny Capitel is the Managing Director for the South Atlantic & Florida region at IntraFi Network. He is responsible for growing and managing a portfolio of network banks within the region that utilize IntraFi Network’s suite of balance sheet management solutions. Mr. Capitel previously represented Bank Director Magazine where he established relationships with companies and organizations who marketed to the Community Bank’s CEO, CFO and Board of Directors. He was Senior Vice President of National Accounts for Progeny Marketing Innovations/FISI Madison Financial and assisted banks in marketing to their retail customer segment.

    Mr. Capitel began his career as an accountant in the private sector and moved to sales for Pitney Bowes and Dictaphone. Danny joined IntraFi Network in September of 2004 when the company was a fledgling financial service and technology start-up. He has been instrumental in growing the company to be the largest deposit placement service provider in the country with 3,000 financial institutions in its network.
